I know this post may be a bit late, but here goes!
So every year my dear sweet Mama is the driving force behind everyone figuring out our “word” for the year. She follows us around encouraging us to seek God, Pray, and ask Him what his word of Inspiration for the new year might be. Last year my word was WAIT. And what that meant to me was that God wanted m to wait on Him in regards to my life and plans. Not to go out seeking, employment and all these crazy little dreams, but to let Him bring it to pass. It was so hard! Giving everything over to God is not easy. I would like to at least have some control, ya know? But when I did, he provided for me in such unexpected and special ways. He made a dream trip to Georgia happen. He provided me with a job. He placed a sewing class in my lap for the second year in a row. He even made my dream of Producing Audio Drama and Music a reality. There are so many other things that are too numerous to count!
So this year, I was praying and had the word FOCUS pop into my head. At first I was like “nnn. . that is not very spiritual, I mean really?” But then later in the next few days as I was reading my Bible, I came across some great verses that really brought it home to me. Focus on what? You might ask. Here is what I wrote in my little notebook.
– on God
– on my Family
-on what God puts before me. (again, don’t chase)
-on Learning and training myself to become a better housewife
-on helping others.
“Do the will of God HEARTILY and with your WHOLE SOUL.” Ephesians 6:6b
“ Do EVERYTHING as unto the Lord with ALL DILIGENCE.”
This next one is my favorite!
“Let your eyes look right on, (with fixed purpose) and let your gaze be straight before you. Consider well the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established and ordered aright. Turn not aside to the right hand or to the left, remove your foot from evil.” Proverbs 4: 25-27
I also love this next set of verses.
“Therefore He says, Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine upon you and give you light. Look Carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully, not as the unwise, but as wise. Making the most of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be thoughtless and foolish, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.”
Wow, that one is really convicting. “ Live Purposely!” What a great encouragement. Don’t waste my time and fritter it away. Live with purpose. Make the most of time because time is precious. You know the phrase, “Time is Money”? Time is super important and you will never have this same 24 hours again. Use it. Use it wisely.
Goals for the Year.
So my Mama really encouraged me (and the rest of my family) ( I know, I have an awesome mom!) to make some goals and separate them into separate categories. That really helped with organization and having ideas, because otherwise I looked at an expanse of 12 months and are overwhelmed by the idea of trying to come up with a goal. Also, one of my brothers said that he read somewhere that your goals are 49% more likely to happen if you write them down. Think about that for a second. If you just keep them in your head, what will happen to them? I know in my case if I have an awesome thought, if I don’t write it down, I won’t remember it when I need it. Which is why I have several little notebooks that are placed in strategic places around the house. I have made it a habit that if I have an idea, a thought, or something that I need to do later, I go write it down so I won’t forget. I would encourage you to write down some goals. They don’t have to be anything huge, just any little thing that will help you accomplish one of your dreams.
This is how I specified my goals.
-Study the word of God EVERY day. Seek Him in it. Don’t let it fall by the wayside.
-Have Prayer time every night before bed.
-Memorize scripture 1 verse every week.
-Be diligent with practicing the piano. Every day, NO excuses.
-Write every day for at least 20 min. The Make Up rule applies. (I have a rule in my head that I give myself grace in this area. If I am sick and absolutely can’t see my way to writing, then I make up for it later, or write extra when I can to make up for it if it should happen in the future.)
-Blog 2 times per week at least.
– Exercise for Sure once a week. Preferably twice. Work on building up strength.
-Do back exercises and stretches. EVERY DAY! ( I am trying to rehab a slight injury)
Business/Ichthus Family Productions
-Plan out some workshops/classes for the summer
-Sew on! LOL
– Produce our Feature Length Production
-Produce 1 song, and 1 Dramatized story per month for the year.
I will leave you with a song that I did with help from my sister for the new year. I love this song and what it speaks of!
What about you? Do you have any goals for the new year? What is your “word” for the year?
By His Grace,
