Crazy Goals. . .

Since Wednesday’s are my writing days on the blog, I decided to do a post updating you all on my writing goals. As you may have guess by the title, they are kind of crazy!

So, I have, in my possession, a complete first draft of a novel. As well as a Tween/Teen book that is also finished. Written by me of course!  My goal is to have them both published by the end of September. I know I know, crazy talk right there! LOL! For clarification, that goal is Lord Willing. Who knows what might come my way in the next few months. I have a deadline, but life and family take precedence. So that being said, I have a lot to do in preparation and I am slightly overwhelmed, seeing as how my novel needs to be rewritten to a certain extent. A certain somebody in the story needs some fleshing out as well. Last week, I laid out all of my resources and about hyperventilated!

So in this picture I had all three notebooks that have the handwritten first draft, as well as all of the plotting and outline. Then I had my printed copy of the book with all the notes I had made previously to editing or revising. I then have a copy that I gave a friend full of notes she made as well as several sheets of paper full of notes. Then a to do list!

In this picture, I have everything I had in my lap. Notebooks, pens, the rough draft and things to write on.

Here is me writing away on a piece I have to insert into the novel. This thing is currently just over 69,000 words! I am still so in awe of it all. I never thought I was capable of this. I can’t wait to release it to the world and all of you, but before then, I have a lot of work to do.

If you think of it, I would be greatly appreciative if you would pray for me that I would have clarity of mind, wisdom and guidance during this extensive process and that what God wants to be in the book would be in the book. Also, I want others to be blessed by this story.

This journey has been so amazing and I can’t wait to see the finished work in my hands! This is one of my encouraging quotes that I have pasted on my wall nearby where I write.

I believe that I can do this with God’s help, and I am so determined to polish this baby to perfection.

Do you have any goals that seem crazy?

Summer Book Giveaway #2

Hey Ho everyone! Time for the second Summer Giveaway! I am so excited about this one!!!! Please know that even if you entered the previous giveaway, you are still eligible for this one! So go ahead and enter away!

Resistance (Ilyon Chronicles)  by Jaye L. Knight

I’ll let the author speak for herself.

“Could God ever love a half-blood all of society looks upon with such fear and disdain? Jace once believed so, but when a tragic loss shatters the only peace he’s ever known, his faith crumbles as the nagging doubts he’s tried to put behind him descend on his grieving heart. With them come the haunting memories of the bloodstained past he longs to forget, but can never escape.
Taken from home at a young age and raised to serve the emperor, Kyrin Altair lives every day under a dangerous pretense of loyalty. After her unique observation skills and perfect memory place her into direct service to the emperor, Kyrin finds herself in further jeopardy as it becomes increasingly difficult to hide her belief in Elôm, the one true God.
Following the emperor’s declaration to enforce the worship of false gods under the penalty of death, many lives are endangered. But there are those willing to risk everything to take a stand and offer aid to the persecuted. With their lives traveling paths they never could have imagined, Jace and Kyrin must fight to overcome their own fears and conflicts with society as they become part of the resistance. “

This book would technically be put in the Medieval Fantasy genre. Fantasy can be a tricky thing, but this book is free from magic or sorcery of any kind. It is simply a fictional medieval story set in a fictional place about fictional people.

It is so good! I can’t even begin to tell you. . . I enjoyed this book so much!

The action was enough to keep me turning pages, the characters were so real I wanted to hug each of them and rescue them from their predicaments. Flashes of humor showed through and made me chuckle despite the danger and bravado.

The story follows the stories of Jace and Kyrin and their family and friends through the terrible trials that assail them.

Kyrin is a loveable, normal girl. In a world of unrealistic leading ladies, this girl was a refreshing break. She struggled, she fought, but God reigns in her life. I found myself relating to her in many ways and cheering her on.

Jace is a broken young man who has a hard time moving past the rejection and unloving that has pervaded his previous life. He has a hard time accepting God (or King Elom in the books) grace, and loving and accepting himself.

The myriad of other characters had me cheering, from Sam, Kyrin’s twin brother Kaden, Rayad, Trev, Lady Anne and Trask. The characters are so real and I loved reading all about them.

I am so impressed with this book and the clarity and just awesome job she did writing it! Jaye L. Knight has inspired me in my writing as well as added to my reading pleasure.

I can tell you the ending was satisfying, but at the same time, I can’t wait to read the sequel. This is a book I will treasure on my bookshelf.  There were several moments I wasn’t breathing and I couldn’t stop turning pages!  I have a love for medieval and fantasy type stories, but most authors I have found who write in that genre, take the fantasy to the extreme or the stories are really dark and I tend to stop before I have gotten a chapter in. This book made me so happy! The Christian message throughout was so effortless, delightful, and encouraging. I am already planning to read it again!

21 Things I Learned From Disney

My siblings and I were quoting a Disney movie and laughing hysterically together (which is something I find us doing often!) and I came up with the idea of this post! All of my siblings helped me come up with these and it made for great over dinner conversation! LOL!

1 ~ Beauty and the Beast

Say please. . .and be gentle.

2 ~ Tarzan

“If you want someone to like you. . . Stay away from them!” ~Turk

3 ~ Ratatouille

“Shut up and eat your garbage.” ~ Dad

4 ~ The Jungle Book

“Forget about your worries and your strife” ~ Baloo

5 ~ Cinderella

“A dream is a wish your heart makes”

6 ~ Mary Poppins

7 ~ Cinderella 2015

“Have Courage and Be Kind”

8 ~ Toy Story

“You Are a TOY!”

9 ~ Toy Story 2

Always pack your angry eyes. You never know when they might come in handy.

10 ~ The Incredibles

If everyone is super. . . no one is.

“To not to. . .”

Don’t talk to the accused. Smile (You would probably only get this one if you have watched the movie as many times as I have had. With 6 brothers, I kid you not, they ask to watch it nearly every movie night we have! LOL!)

20 ~ Zootopia

“Life isn’t some cartoon musical where you sing a little song and your insipid dreams magically come true. So LET IT GO!” ~ Chief BOGO

I’ll leave you with my favorite Disney moment ever!

What is something you’ve learned from a movie? Serious or funny?

Writing Prompt 017

Tabitha gripped the rung of the ladder and held on for dear life. The metal cold beneath her fingers, she squeezed her eyes shut against the frozen countryside whirring by. A wind that chilled her to the bone whirled her skirts around and clutched her legs with its icy tendrils, sending shivers up her spine. As if she weren’t shaking enough already. Running for your life and clinging to the side of a moving train could tend to do that to you.

Tears flooded her eyes. If only she wasn’t alone. Pain grasped her chest as her shoulders heaved with sobs. She remembered the looks of confusion on her little brothers faces as she pulled her dress from their little clinging hands. She remembered her mother’s grief-stricken face as she pushed her daughter from the house and bade her run. Her own feelings of pain and confusion welled within her. Why couldn’t they have come with her? This was not how her day was supposed to end. She was supposed to be enjoying a meal of potatoes and lamb, sitting between Evan and Jacob. But those plans had changed when the courier knocked frantically on the back door and handed a bundle inside to her mother before running off again, looking behind him with a look of fear.

Tabitha clutched the bundle that was tightly wrapped and pinned inside her cloak and concealed therein. She needed to get to the city and the bundle to her father. Only he could deliver it to the right hands. If only she could get there safely.

This one was fun to do. I actually tossed around ideas of where to place the story, but decided to leave it without a location or specific time period.

Happy Summer!!! Book Giveaway #1

Hello everyone!

Summer is always a time where we get to relax, rejuvenate, and just generally have fun. And for us readers out there, it is a time when we can pull out those great books that have been sitting around waiting to be read! I have a special treat for you these next couple of weeks. The chance to win some awesome summer reading! So to our first giveaway without anymore ado!

Ashburn (I.C.E. Agency Series)

by Julia Erickson

This book is really a delight. It has a perfect mix of excitement, coolness, and clean romance.

I try to be careful with what I read when it comes to romance. I don’t like anything that dwells on it “too much” but this was perfect! The entire relationship is so clean and honorable but has it’s own sticky moments of humanness.

I will let you read what it is about in Julia’s own words.

Cara Stephenson, a talented graphic designer at Silver Strand Technologies, never thought she’d see her childhood best friend again… but when he suddenly reenters her life ten years later, he’s a completely different man. What is he hiding, and why should she trust him?
Bryce Reynolds is a man on a mission- a top-secret one at that! He never dreamed the girl down the street would one day become his link to the destruction of Ravenmeister, Inc.- a front for black-market arms and ammunition. Will he crumble underneath the burden of all his secrets?
When the hunt for a missing technology developer in possession of a priceless prototype drags Cara and Bryce on a high-adrenaline ride through the streets of Paris, Venice, and Munich, they must work together to find what they’re looking for… and survive the trip!

I just loved this book. Most spy thrillers today are garbage and kind of creepy if I am being honest. This book was not! It was so awesome! I am fan-girling here a little bit, but I just loved the spy stuff!

Bryce is so cool with all of his super secret spy gadgets and knowhow. He is kind, funny, but also has issues he needs to overcome. Which makes him super interesting.

Cara, also has issues but is a girl after my own heart. Feminine and she loves ruffles, but brave and smart.

The entire mystery had me on the edge of my seat and I read it in an entire afternoon and evening. Unfortunately I had to stop for dinner, but it was just so good! Then ending was so touching but I shall not speak of it! It really is a must read.

The Christian message is so effortlessly woven throughout, and its meaning so uplifting. I hope you read this book, even if you don’t win.

Another awesome thing about this book is that it was written by a dear friend of mine. But more than that, Julia is an Independent author who published this herself! I am so impressed with her work!

Freckled Fox Update

I have been following Emily for about 4 years now.

There is something special about blogs and bloggers. We show little snippets of our lives, in essence inviting you in to view a small part of who we are and what makes us who we are. I don’t know Emily personally, but I often have to remind myself of that as I constantly call her “my friend Emily”.

I have followed the story of her husband Martin’s battle with cancer with an aching, hopeful, prayerful heart. Martin, as of Wednesday, is in heaven with his Father and free of all pain. My heart grieves for Emily and her sweet little ones, her little red-headed babies, as they go through this heart wrenching time. Please join me in prayer for them.

Also, there is a way you can help them financially, set up by friends of Emily and Martin. Click here or below to donate to their support.
