Writing Prompt 022

She stood, calm, yet with a defiant tilt to her chin as the rest of the women around the room talked amongst themselves, undoubtedly about her. She felt their judgment as their eyes roamed her thin figure clothed in the peasant dress. She raised her chin a little higher.

There was no way she was going to let them get to her. She may just be a peasant girl, but she was a person too. She may be wearing the clothes of a poor person, but they were clean clothes. She had nothing to be ashamed of. Had not her father spent hard work and sweat working to provide this dress? Had not her mother spent hours toiling over the needle to create it? Had not she herself pricked her fingers numerous times on the needle as she hemmed it herself? She raised her chin a little higher. She had nothing to be ashamed of.
