Minimal Holiday Glam Makeup Tutorial

BeFunky Collage

Welcome to a tutorial on my favorite way to do my makeup for he holidays! I am a bit of a minimalist when it comes to makeup. I like my own skin, so I don’t need to put a ton of foundation or anything on top. My main focus is my eyes and I do a soft, red lipgloss for some extra glamour. I also want to keep it subtle with my eyes, so I don’t go crazy on the shadow. Just enough to feel glittery for the holidays! Lets get into it!

Before picture! Bed head and all!

I first like to clip my hair up, that way it is out of my face. Also, so I don’t get mascara in it (been there done that)

Concealor ~ I usually have some pretty dark circles or shadows under my eyes, and if I stayed up late the night before, then they are probably pretty puffy as well. I love concealer so much! It just totally brightens my eyes and evens out my skin tone without changing the shape of my face. I paint little triangles under my eyes, run it down the bridge of my nose and touch it to some of my blemishes. Then, I blend in with my fingers.

After that, if my eyes are still a little dark, I put a few more dots right in the worst spot and blend that in.

Because I am using eye-shadow for this look, I also touch a bit to my eyelids  as a primer so that the shadows stick. Smile

On to the glitter! I share this “tartlette” palette with my mom because it was a little pricy and mom lets me use it.  She got it as a birthday gift. (thanks mom!), but any shadow will do as long as it has a lighter shade and a darker shade in it.

I am going to start off with the shade “funny girl” which is kind of a soft, light, rose gold color. It is really pretty, and has just enough glitter to make this girly girl happy.

I then put that all over my upper eyelid.

Next, I go for some of the shade “firecracker” that is a darker brownish glittlery one. Notice I am not using the matted shades. Smile

I just touch this color to the outer corner of my eye and barely blend it with the lighter shade. It is kind of just to add a bit of a shadow at the outer corner.

Like so!

I only use this shade if I mess up, but I use the color “charmer” which is the lightest matte shade in the palette. I use this to cleanup anything that may have gone overboard and also on the inner corners of my eyes where any shadow may have accidentally gotten.

Now that we are done with the shadows, I go in with eyeliner. I use a grey shade called “pewter” by Maybelline. It is softer than black and I like the way it is a little more minimalist.

I draw a thin line as close the lash line (or practically in it) as I can on the outer 2/3 of my eye. Then on the bottom lash line, I do a little dash the width of my finger in the middle but slightly off to the outside. I learned this trick a while ago that it really opens up my eyes. I don’t like to meet the liner all the way around because I want it to look more natural.

Next is mascara. Mine is a black/brown, again, more subtle.

Tada! That is pretty much it, but I am going to add this lip-gloss from Burts Bees that is my favorite! It is enough of a red to feel classy, but still subtle. And because it is a gloss, it is more minimalist than your average lipstick would be.

Now, we are all done! I just love this effortless and natural, but classy look. DSC05896

  1. I love the way your makeup looks! I’m the same way, I don’t like to wear a whole lot of makeup. But at the same time, there are occasions where I wish I had a little extra, but then I also don’t want to wear too much! So I think this is a perfect look 🙂 I love this lip gloss you used! I don’t know if that would be a good color for me, since my skin tone is lighter than yours, but I might try it out sometime!
