4 stars

This book was highly insightful, and again, not what I expected. The last time I read a book by Ms. Fisher, I was pleasantly surprised by the actual story and the depth therein.

This was the same way. The story was a bit slow in the beginning, picking up the pace as it went on. I loved the journal entries interspersed at the end of each chapter and the insight that it was seeing two different eras of Nantucket living.Read More »

Writing Prompt 056: Part 3

CARL: Third from the left.

Phrase to include:  “Stop grinning.” “I can’t. It’s been stuck to my face.”

***

Carl rubbed his face and turned away from watching the older boys. Jack had eaten a frog. With as hungry as he was, he couldn’t really blame him. He watched Lissie walk back towards her brother. She reminded him of his mother somehow. It must be the blond hair and her large dark eyes. His heart throbbed painfully and he swallowed at the memory of his mother. It had only been a year since he had last seen her. Much more recent than all the others had seen their parents. He missed her terribly and could not seem to put it behind him the way the others did. When he was seven, his father had left to join the navy. Rather, he had been conscripted. He didn’t’ remember much about his father. It had been a long time ago. But what he did remember was how happy father had made his mother. They had been such a happy family. So full of laughter. One moment stood clearly in his memory of when they were all together. They had been eating dinner and teasing each other.Read More »

Why I Chose To Publish With Createspace

Why I Chose To Publish With

*disclaimer* I have only used Createspace, so I can’t really speak knowledgeably about the other companies out there. I just am explaining why I chose Createspace and what some of the Pros and Cons were for myself.

There are a few reasons for this blog post. I feel like people as me a lot why I chose to self-publish, and that is kind of a different post all-together. However, why I chose Createspace in particular to self-publish is the topic of this post.

Reason number 1

The main thing that drew me to Createspace is that they are a company owned by amazon and once your book is published, it is available on Amazon for sale.Read More »

Hey y’all!

This is Sarah Grace. I’m Victoria’s younger, but taller (shh, don’t tell her that; she’ll deny it.) sister, and I hacked her blog for a very special occasion.

Some of you might have known, but most of you probably didn’t know that today is Victoria’s birthday. And since she wouldn’t think of bragging on herself, I shall for her. 😀

White Wolf and the Ash Princess // Day 8 // My Review

Blog Tour Banner Final

It’s the last day of the tour everyone! Just wanted to let you know, that the Facebook event has been canceled due to both Tammy and I being sick. If you haven’t already though, please be sure to enter the giveaway! And thank you for joining us on this journey!

Today, I also, finally, have my review! Since I have been planning the tour, it was hard to fit in my review, but I figured the last day of the tour would be an ideal place for it. Open-mouthed smile

My Review:

4. 5 stars.

I did not expect this book to turn out the way it did. Which is one of the reasons I love it so. I was in a HUGE reading slump when I picked it up. I was in one of those moods where I literally didn’t want to read anything. I was bored, I had read some boring things recently and it sucked the joy out of my reading. Then I picked up this gem.

I wasn’t sure what to expect as there had been many different genre’s used to describe it. It was also a wee bit slow in the beginning, but for some reason it didn’t bother me that much. It read like an old friend and I was interested enough in Izzy’s secrets that I had to keep reading. Not to mention, I am of the mindset who loves details that are beautiful, and Tammy’s are beautiful. There is a lovely way that the words are woven together and it was completely different than anything I had read before and I think that is why it was so interesting to me. The first person narrative was unusual and somehow it worked in a fascinating way.

For instance, I loved how Izzy’s flashback sneaked up on us readers as well as on Izzy. I was taken with the way it felt as though you weren’t quite sure if what she was experiencing was real, or if it was a flashback.

The characters as well. Prepare for a bit of fangirling. Oh. My. Heart. Each one was unique and special, even the ugly ones. Um, hello, I wanted to punch a certain someone way early in the book before they were really revealed as a bad guy. Somehow I have a certain sense about that. I know who to trust and who not to pretty quickly in stories. He was MEAN. *glares*  BUT ALL OF THE LOVELIES! I wanted to hug them all! Izzy needed a good talking to and thankfully Miss Margaret gave her that. Jonathan. . . the poor tormented soul. TUBS. . . dear one, can I keep him forever?

The themes. Wow. I had no idea of Tammy’s backstory as I read this book, but I could sense that there was something deep behind the meaning of the story and it’s characters. I was moved to tears when I read her Author’s note in the back of the book and that theory paid off. I balled my eyes out when I realized the true heart behind this book and the amount of personal experience had been poured into it. Tammy’s heart behind this book is evident and I couldn’t help but love it, even if I hadn’t already.

Content: There is some violence, mentions of people dying, etc. Slavery is brought up in a delicate fashion, wounds and more. A kiss between a husband and wife is all that occurs. Due to the maturity of the story, I would recommend it for ages 13+. Everything that Miss Lash dealt with in this book was done so well, I never worried once about the content for my younger sisters. Who have both read this book and loved it by the way.
