Questions for VAVC #8, January – March
1. Do you believe that anyone can be a writer?
2. What is your ideal reading spot?
3. What is your favorite sweet treat?
By God’s Grace,
I know valentine’s day has come and gone already this year. But, even though it is late, I still wanted to share my thoughts on the subject.
So many people these days, are so depressed when it comes to this day of the year. And it all comes down to being alone. They are lonely, they wish they had a significant other, etc.
And while I could jump on the bandwagon, because I too am single and I too can’t wait to start a life with someone special, I think it’s so sad that people are depressed about it. I could also go on about so many things in this post, but I want to talk about why I am not depressed about it.Read More »
Character: Monique, 4th from the left.
Phrase to include: “Why do you hate me?” “I don’t hate you. I’m just saying that if you got punched in the face, I’d have blood on my knuckles.”
Monique huddled under her blanket. Shivering with equal parts fear and cold. She had always been timid, and she hated that about herself. She was so tired of being scared. But, when they reached their journey’s end, maybe she wouldn’t have to be afraid anymore. At Least this was better than living in her old home. As the scullery maid for a tavern, she was often subject to dealings with men who were unsavory, rude, drunk and even brutal. Even her mistress Lady Dodo had not been above beating her help when she thought it was deserved. Monique had tried very hard not to spill anything, break anything, do everything on time and efficiently, but no one could be perfect and it was nearly impossible to please her worship Lady Dodo.
She was often in trouble since she was so frightened all the time. She had been carrying a tray with several tankards of ale and it was very heavy. She had been concentrating on not spilling it, but even so, she couldn’t help but overhear one of the conversations as she passed a table.Read More »

Phoebe’s Light by Suzanne Woods Fisher
Series: Nantucket Legacy, Book 1
Publication Year: 2018
You can find the book and synopsis here.
// My Review //
This book was highly insightful, and again, not what I expected. The last time I read a book by Ms. Fisher, I was pleasantly surprised by the actual story and the depth therein.
This was the same way. The story was a bit slow in the beginning, picking up the pace as it went on. I loved the journal entries interspersed at the end of each chapter and the insight that it was seeing two different eras of Nantucket living.Read More »
CARL: Third from the left.
Phrase to include: “Stop grinning.” “I can’t. It’s been stuck to my face.”
Carl rubbed his face and turned away from watching the older boys. Jack had eaten a frog. With as hungry as he was, he couldn’t really blame him. He watched Lissie walk back towards her brother. She reminded him of his mother somehow. It must be the blond hair and her large dark eyes. His heart throbbed painfully and he swallowed at the memory of his mother. It had only been a year since he had last seen her. Much more recent than all the others had seen their parents. He missed her terribly and could not seem to put it behind him the way the others did. When he was seven, his father had left to join the navy. Rather, he had been conscripted. He didn’t’ remember much about his father. It had been a long time ago. But what he did remember was how happy father had made his mother. They had been such a happy family. So full of laughter. One moment stood clearly in his memory of when they were all together. They had been eating dinner and teasing each other.Read More »
*disclaimer* I have only used Createspace, so I can’t really speak knowledgeably about the other companies out there. I just am explaining why I chose Createspace and what some of the Pros and Cons were for myself.
There are a few reasons for this blog post. I feel like people as me a lot why I chose to self-publish, and that is kind of a different post all-together. However, why I chose Createspace in particular to self-publish is the topic of this post.
Reason number 1
The main thing that drew me to Createspace is that they are a company owned by amazon and once your book is published, it is available on Amazon for sale.Read More »
