I’m In An Anthology! // Giveaway

The Cruz

I feel like I’ve had nothing but announcements lately, but this needed to be shared!

I participated in a story contest created by Rachael Ritchey over on her website here.

You can find out more info and see the content guide for the book here.

Now, a little about the writing process for my story.

I have been sitting on this announcement for so long and I am so stoked to finally be able to share it with you! I wrote this story a bit on a whim. I heard about a story contest and unlike most, it was something doable, and the picture grabbed my interest and wouldn’t let go. The inspiration that hit was so intense, I couldn’t drop it. It was one of the most unique and interesting writing experience I have ever had. I wrote it quickly, almost as if my heart was gushing with the need to spill this story. It deals with a pretty tough subject and it’s such a gritty, dark, but hope-filled piece. I read back over it for the first time in over 6 months to do the final grooming for publication. I was overwhelmed and cried real tears as my soul shook beneath the weight of the words. If ever I wonder why I write, why God has me creating worlds with words, all I have to do is pick up this little story and again see His guiding hand. The hope and parallels that fill this little story make my soul sing and cry all at the same time. When I read it, I know why I write, and who I write for. When I found out that my story had placed in the contest and would be featured in the anthology, I was beyond thrilled! I hope you will check out this book and story. One of the exciting things about this anthology is that all proceeds go to support Compassion International, a ministry who furthers the gospel and love of Christ in this broken world. I can’t wait to get my own copy and check out the other stories within its pages!

Here are some images that really captured what I was feeling for this story. Think Inception, gritty, heart-wrenching, hope-filled vibes.

  1. Congratulations! As for what I like to have in my hand while reading, I’d say my dog or my porcupine. (both stuffed animals, don’t worry :P) But sometimes I need my hands free, in case I need to flail them.

  2. Congratulations! I look forward to reading it!
I don’t read anything while I’m reading except water from a closed water bottle. (I don’t want anything getting on the pages. XD)

  3. Just wanted to say again that I’m so proud of you, girl! I believe the Lord can and will use your story to touch people in a deep, personal way. Thank you for being such a good example of what it looks like to allow God to work through you as a writer and a person. ❤

Favorite things to read with? I read the most in bed, so a warm blanket is a definite must have. If I'm reading in public then I like having my earbuds and instrumental music to help keep me focused.

  4. Congrats! This sounds like a fantastic anthology. It’s so wonderful that you had such inspiration for your piece — it’s on my “TBR” list for sure!

Favorite thing to have while reading? I’d have to say a cup of hot cocoa or iced tea, depending on the season. I’m sticking with the hot drink right now though –it’s frigid outside!
