Bohemian Tunic Outfit/Sharing Clothes

I really love this outfit! It is super comfy, it has bohemian vibes, (which you know I like) and it is modest and practical without trying super hard. This tunic was a really great find. My mom got it and it didn’t fit her right and since it was on clearance and it wasn’t worth returning, she let me buy it from her. OH MY Goodness! I was so happy! It is nice and long but not with that super frumpy look and I think it is flattering.

The green jacket I borrowed from my sister (who doesn’t wear it). It is so funny. My sisters and I and now my mom all share clothes. Let me rephrase that. They wear my clothes. LOL! I am the one in the family who really enjoys shopping, putting together outifts and finding what works. The hunt is so fun to me! Looking for something that is modest, or old fashioned, or special (gotta love thrift stores) is my specialty. I find great enjoyment out of popping into a few thrift stores and trying on clothes. Inevitably when I get home and show my finds, the girls or mom are like! “OOH! Can I have that?!” I compromise and say “we’ll share”. That way, in my head, it is still mine! LOL! Though, there are a few things in my wardrobe that are MINE and no one else can wear. For instance, my 2 pairs of good jeans, and my favorite homemade skirt.

Now the complications of sharing things is that at a glance, the family doesn’t know who is who. One of my sisters looks like me, or I look like them when we interchange clothes. I think it is fun that we get to do that. When the girls come to me and are like “what do I wear?” I get to play fashion designer and dress them up in whatever is in the closet. It also is more convenient because we share 1 closet and 1 and a half dressers between us three girls, so we don’t have to worry about “this side is mine, the middle is yours, and that side is yours” We make do and I really am thankful for all of the character qualities that get worked on because we all have to share.

Spring/Summer Fashion Inspiration: BOHO

It is time for a Spring/Summer inspiration post! Woo hoo! Spring is finally here and I am so happy! I love summer clothes! Flowy skirts, no coats and most importantly flip flops!!!! Bring it on! If you have followed my blog much at all you know that there is something inside of me that loves the boho/hippie look. There is so much about it that I love! Predominately the bracelets, feathers, and did I say bracelets? Well, let’s get started!

In the collage above, I picked my top 5 inspiration pics. Top left: I absolutely LOVE this outfit! I wish I could click on it and it would magically appear in my closet. That skirt is just he coolest and to this day remains my favorite outfit of all time. And I have a lot of pinterest boards ya’ll. Top right: this skirt is just so pretty and flowy. Which is another thing I love about the boho look. Long flowy skirts are the best! Bottom left: bracelets are my thing. I love them! When my siblings asked my what I wanted for my birthday, “if you are ever at a loss on what to get me, if you get me a bracelet, I will be a happy woman. “  Bottom right: I love this flowy, floral blouse. It just sings spring! The middles picture is kinda the coolest and it sums up the boho look. It really is just so eclectic, earthy, and vibrant, but it somehow just all goes together.

maxi skirts are another thing I love about spring and summer. The more boho the better! I love both of these. That first patchworky one just really grabs me! I might have to make something similar! It is so cool!

Because I wear tunics with my jeans, accomplishing the bohemian look is quite easy. Throw some braclets, long earrings and flip flops on and you are good to go!

This outfit is what I wear a lot during the summer. A long tiered skirt, lots of bracelets, and flip-flops. It is just so comfortable and effortless.

Sigh, this skirt is just so heavenly. but alas! I cannot find it anywhere! The link is broken! Sad smile

BRACELETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make my heart happy!

The hat. And the dress, I would wear this in a heartbeat.

Again, I love the hat! I have plenty of those! That blouse or dress, is so pretty. That is another thing about the bohemian look. The embroidery aspect of it is really pretty.

I will end with the piece de resistance. This skirt. Just wow! I have looked them up and they are a special kind of Bohemian skirt and you can order them based on how full you want them. Some are up to 15 yards full. Love it! I would feel like a bohemian princess wearing this! Love! Maybe one day I will be able to afford one.

The outfits are all outfits I put together on Polyvore. For a fashionista like me, it is the grown up equivalent to paper dolls! I have lots of fun on there. You can check out my other sets here!

Do you like the Boho look?

What are you looking forward to wearing this spring/summer?

Workin’ Hard + Casual Outfit

I have been a busy beaver! Well to be honest, I have been trying to be a busy beaver. Getting back into the swing of things has been a bit difficult. I finally just made myself start working on something and I am so glad I did! Last week before the weekend, I cut and sewed my “mock up” dress of a new pattern I am trying. I am so glad that I did a “mock up” of it. I was actually debating whether or not I had to. The other dress I make is of a pattern by the same company, so I figured I would do the same size and be fine. Boy was I wrong.

The bodice which you can see here, turned out pretty good. I liked how it fit and layed.

But once I sewed the bodice to the skirt of the dress, I found that the neck gaped for some strange reason. I am thinking I cut it wrong perhaps? You can see in the picture, I am bunching it up at the waistline seam. So I will be popping into a thrift store to see if I can get a random bed sheet to make another mock up. I want this dress to be perfect. Since I paid more than I normally would a yard for some gorgeous fabric, (which I will show you soon)  I simply want to be thrilled with the results! Smile

Today I also started working on bags and wallets again in preparation for the spring and summer season of shows. I have some gorgeous fabrics this time around and I am so glad I popped into JoAnn’s instead of just going from Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby is my happy place but I needed a larger selection. Some pretty new, bright colors and florals  for spring!

The wallets all cut up and ready to go!

I have a pile of things that are ready to sew! Going to start in on that tomorrow!

On to my outfit. I wore this on Friday last week as I was working on the mock up of my dress. Just a real simple casual outfit that I could crawl around on the floor in with no problem. Am I the only one who cuts out my patterns on the floor? There’s no room any where else! LOL!

Ok, one last note. Any of you watch “When Calls The Heart”? My family took it up while we were sick and we binge watched the first two seasons. (sheepish grin) We are all caught up with what is on tv now, but we just watched the preview for the season finale!!!!! Oh MY GOSH! We were all freaking out and don’t know how we are going to wait till next week to see the finale! I love having sisters! I got to fangirl unashamedly with them for a bit! LOL! If you haven’t heard of the show I would highly recommend it! Super clean and family friendly, which I love. Somewhat cheesy at times but I find that endearing. Smile

Have you ever seen When Calls The Heart?

What have you been busy with?

#OOTD Retro Outfit: Feat. my Mama!

Say hello to my lovely Mama! Isn’t she beautiful!? She got this new sweater from goodwill. . . she had been on the hunt for a pink one for several months. She was doing her hair and I went and pulled out one of my vintage scarfs and tied it for her! I loved it! She looks so cute and retro! But comfortable and casual as well.

I love my Mama! She is so awesome! I feel so blessed and honored to have her for a mother. She is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. She has always been there for me and is my best friend! I am so proud of her!

#OOTD Casual Purple

I really love this outfit! I got these purple corduroy pants from Gap for $4 in the clearance section and thought they were really cool! Especially for that price! I wore this outfit on a busy Saturday and wore it to take my Grandpa shopping. It was such a comfy outfit and I wasn’t at my best that day. I was so thrilled because I ended up inadvertently color coordinating! My scarf matched my pants, my hat matched my scarf and my nail color ended up matching too! It was a plummy purple! I am not totally sure why that excited me so much! LOL!

I love shopping but I was really not feeling well that day. I had been up for several hours in the middle of the night feeling really yucky. I ended up sleeping in till 11. When Mama told me that she needed me to go with her and shop with Grandpa, I at first was not a happy camper. I was achy and who wants to go out and be around people when you feel crummy? I grumbled to myself through rushing a little makeup on and putting on my shoes. God kind of convicted me of my bad attitude and with some prompting from the Holy Spirit decided to turn it around. “How often do I get to hang out with my mama by myself for an hour? Not often! Pull it together and be happy! You can do this, and you can have a good time doing it!” I gave myself a bit of a pep talk.

Having my normally VERY stoic Grandpa call me sweetheart and chat with me a little while we shopped made it all worth while. A time is coming when he may not be around for me to be able to hang out with my Mama’s Daddy and maybe I can give him a little bit of love in his probably very lonely and boring life. I treasure these times because, they will pass away like it says in Psalms 103

“15 The life of mortals is like grass,
they flourish like a flower of the field;
16 the wind blows over it and it is gone,
and its place remembers it no more.”

This thought that we have such tiny moments saddens me and makes me a bit melancholy, but at the same time it fuels me to make the most of every moment.
